He is currently the executive president of AMAFORE, president of FIAP, a professor at ITAM, a columnist for the newspaper Excélsior, a commentator on ADN 40, and an independent business advisor.

He holds a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Chicago and bachelor's degrees in Economics and Accounting from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico. From 2011 to 2022, he was general director of the Foundation for Financial Studies – FUNDEF, A.C.

From 2005 to 2010, he was head of the Banking, Securities, and Savings Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. In the public sector, he held other positions, including Vice President of Financial Institution Supervision at the National Banking and Securities Commission.

The main publications in academic journals and book chapters are: “Getting into Debt on the Wrong Credit Card: Evidence from the Case of Mexico” (American Economic Review) and “Credit-Related Issues” (Quarterly Journal of Economics).
